Metrolinx
Presto Card Payment System
Project Type: Mobile Design
Project Details:
Client: Presto by Metrolinx
My Role: UX/UI Designer (Team of two)
Platform: Mobile Application
Sector: Public Transportation (Government)
Methodologies: 3 Steps: Hand-Sketching-> Balsamiq-> Figma
Tools Used: Pencil & Paper. Balsamiq. Figma. Google Docs.
Skills Developed: Balsamiq. Figma. Hand-sketching. Wire-framing. Teamwork. Problem-solving.
Step 1: Research & Hand Sketches
Since we were creating this application from scratch, we conducted independent research. This included locating information from the company regarding: their colour schemes, branding and logos, operations, and we also looked at their official website for possible layouts and other features that we could incorporate into the application design.
Goal & Tasks:
To really give our client a feel for how the application would operate and look, we designed the application based upon four tasks which were:
1. Creating an account
2. Loading/reloading the card,
3. Retrieving card balance
4. Fare payment transactions.
Step 2: Feedback and Medium Fidelity Sketches
The second step of out creation process involved creating an initial working prototype in Balsamiq to see it in a more realistic light. Of course we received feedback on this prototype so of coarse there was room for improvement which would need to take the form of a high fidelity prototype.

Step 3: Final Mobile Application Design
This final step is where everything came together. We applied all of the feedback received from our professor to make our final prototype which was created on Figma. This was exciting as we really saw our vision come to life! I will place the rest of the screens at the bottom of this page so you can browse through each in detail.
Project Self-Reflection
This was the first mobile application design I created, so it was very fun to explore designing one first-hand. Of course this project was a introduction so the type of feedback was not user-focused, it was based upon what the professor gave us. Other projects I completed in later semesters were user-focused so it was more realistic, but I appreciate how we weren't bombarded with so many aspects as we were newbies to design. The only thing is I wish there were more people in our group to apply different design styles, but this was a great first project and I am proud of what Peter and I created!
